Gulf Hagas, The Camp

We were quite excited to get back to this unique place in the north Maine woods. Gulf Hagas, the 'grand canyon of the east', is where we met Davin & Sarah two summers ago. We met them there (along with 9 other people & 3 dogs) for an annual reunion hike a few weekends ago. This campsite is known to be the best of the whole lot ( and it's a big place - 15 minute drive up sign-less branching dirt roads from check-in point to campsite) and the trip was scheduled around it's availability. This is the premo campsite b/c it's large, relatively secluded, thickly tree'd, and there's a constantly audible river running beside it with clear, deep swimming holes, fly-fishing, and tall rocks to jump off! We arrived on a Friday afternoon, hiked on saturday, and relaxed around the campsite sunday morning. Scenes from the campsite below.

'Diving board' to pool below barely seen on left

hmmm... does this taste more like igneous or metamorphic rock?

just to left of this frame there was a gas-powered gold panning machine attached to pontoons (left tied to a tree) and evidence of mining in the river bed

Once again looks like a great trip and lots of great outdoor fun! Also, once again it doesn't make me wish I was camping but that we were able to give Morgan a greater outdoor experience. You guys rock!
